SUPPLIES

The most important thing when you are traveling and painting plein air is simplicity.  You need to easily carry all of your gear. It is recommended that that you have experimented with your colors, brushes, and easel prior to the workshop. This will make you more comfortable packing up your gear in the morning when we are off to paint.

These are the colors I use primarily, but bring your own palette colors if you choose.

You may bring whatever you are comfortable with, but they must be Professional paint, not student grade. (I use Windsor Newton for most, but please do NOT bring WINTON brand)

PAINT COLORS: Small tubes because of airline restrictions

Cad Yellow Light (Gamblin is best)*

Cad Orange (Gamblin is best)

Yellow Ochre

Titanium white

Alizarin Crimson

Ultramarine Blue Blue

Blue Black

Burnt Sienna (NOT Gamblin)

Sap Green

*This cadmium yellow light is important. Lemon yellow can be substituted, but cadmium yellow regular won’t work. The Gamblin cad yellow light is very cool yellow which can be used to make all the other warmer yellows.  It really is the best if you want to carry just one yellow. Please experiment with this color prior to the workshop, if possible.

 Tripod:

A lightweight fold up tripod

Panel Holder:  8x10 wet painting storage pack, www.raymarart.com ~$20

Galkyd Paints:

If you want to have something that will dry quicker than oil, get dark blue and white Windsor Newton Griffin Galkyd paint to mix with the rest of your normal oils. They will dry most paintings to the touch the next day. Please experiment with them, prior to the trip, as they are a little different in feel and final appearance.
