Aftermath, Blessing, Friendship

Just a short note on the past Hurricane scare here in Charleston. VERY thankful for friends who called, texted or just emailed to ask how things were going. I was given refuge in Summerville and very grateful for the hospitality. Now I am home and after putting on a new tin roof (yes - all by my little self! Don't think I'll hire out, but it isn't bad), moving out of the Confederate Home studio - I think I am at last settled. It's been almost a year and feel like my new home is done. And ready to paint again, which is a great feeling.

And then off to Paris for two weeks!

Summer Series

Back from the mountains of NC and working on my Summer series. Studio is pretty hot, but getting some paintings done (and taking ukulele lessons. Yep, scary, but true). I'm also a volunteer for the Charleston Music Hall and have 6 upcoming concerts before I head over to Paris in October to babysit. It's been a good, diversified summer.

Count Down!

Here it is middle of May and I am gearing up for Piccolo Spoleto's Outdoor Art Exhibition. I've moved back to my old spot under the tree - #41, and looking forward to seeing everyone again. New paintings are getting framed, labels are being done, and now hope that all the pieces are there when I put up my tent! (With moving, you never know)

Please come by to visit, take a painting home, and see all the new work from new artists. I'm excited and realized that this is my Official 10 Year Anniversary in the park. I'm so luck to live in this city that supports the arts.

See you there!

Carnival Lights

The one piece I've done for the December show that represents the Low Country, is one of my favorite themes. "Carnival Lights" gives me the opportunity to explore some abstract moments in a painting, and work on a very large scale. 60x72 is by far the biggest piece I've done, and I loved every minute of it!

"When Angels Sang"

"When Angels Sang" 30x24

This is the second piece of the small series of paintings done of Dr. Lori Hicks. She is an incredible person and vocalist that sang for the Colour of Music Benefit back in August. I was so inspired by her and wanted to paint her for my donation pie…

This is the second piece of the small series of paintings done of Dr. Lori Hicks. She is an incredible person and vocalist that sang for the Colour of Music Benefit back in August. I was so inspired by her and wanted to paint her for my donation piece for the Artists of Emanuel "Straight from the Heart" Exhibition November 10 & 11. "She" will be available November 8th on www.bidr.com

"Carmen"

After the tragedy here in Charleston at the Emanuel Church, there was an overwhelming response to the event from Charleston artists. The Artists for Emanuel was formed and now has over 90 artists donating a piece of work to the November 11 event. The Gibbes Museum is doing an Art for Healing Symposium, and the Colours of Music, Black Musicians Festival Artists are performing. You can go to www.artistsforemanuel.com for more information and updates.

The Colour of Music performed a benefit a month back, and was truly one of the most moving and impressive concerts I have gone to. It was like angels from heaven that night and I was so inspired by the singers. Especially Dr. Lori Hicks, who came to the studio and modeled for me. Not only modeled - but sang also. She is a truly beautiful woman and hope that I have done justice to her in two portraits I have done. The first one (below) is going off to the City Art Gallery Figurative Show, September 11. The second is donated to the benefit in November. I will post that when finished.

Figurative Show

I'm gearing up for the City Art Gallery, "Figurative Show" , September 11. It's with Kim English, Louis St. Lewis and Kate Worm - so it should be an absolutely fabulous show!

"Heat Wave", 24x24 oil on board is one of the beach pieces I've been working this summer. They take forever - but love doing all the different people.

Ahhhhhh

Piccolo Spoleto is over and I am back in air conditioning again; organizing paintings to be mailed, cards to write, commissions to think about. It was a great year and I am so grateful I get to do this. My sincere thanks to all who came by to say hello, pick up a painting for their home, or just introduce themselves.

Below - one of my pieces that will be in the Sylvan Gallery Auction, July 18th. It's is going to be a great opportunity for collectors to grab a painting from artists all over the country!

Weed & Seed Band

A week from today we will entertained in Marion Square by the Weed & Seed Band, from Atlanta. I just love the first Saturday of the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition - bands, and people, and excitement all around. And lots of paintings!

Casedei

There are 3-4 of us who get together on Thursdays to paint a model. Kristen and Casadei have been our steady models for the past year, and we so appreciate their patience while we try to capture them on canvas. Casadei is leaving us for California and new adventures, and will be missed  on Thursdays. But we wish her safe travels, happy times and a great life.

"The Fog Comes in on Little Cat Feet"

Carl Sandburg I believe.

We stayed out on Folly at Christmas and looking down the street with the fog rolling in inspired this piece. I had some other images from when I had the studio down on Broad street and combined them into this painting. It reminded me of many mornings going outside painting -  waiting for the sun to come up and shine across the building tops.
